mexic-arte museum / young latino artists 14 exhibition
curated by eduardo xavier garcia
when i set out to curate this show about seven to eight months ago, i went at it with nothing in mind and basically just looked for art work that i found appealing and felt like a certain aesthetic or idea. i sought out work that just functioned as art, that offered me that and nothing else. not giving it a title and not giving the artists a theme worked in its own way. all the while i was looking for work, constantly i kept hearing about the position the world we live in is in. when i saw the work and heard the ideas behind it, i realized that pursuing it was what offered me comfort. it grounded me and inspired me.
  TARP (not equal) lona
in times of troubled assets relief programs (TARP), trillions in deficits, high stress and job loss in numbers never before seen to the present generations, we find ourselves in a position where we have the opportunity to look to art and culture particularly for comfort. our lona , our cover or shield is in the creative process. TARP (not equal) lona is a collection of art-work that allows us a momentary pause. it serves as a vehicle where the artist and viewer alike may strip away complexities and obstructions where he or she may be allowed to reflect and develop new approaches to move forward, to find their lona.
