marcela moran at mexic-arte museum
documentary artist marcela moran will be at the screening of her award winning short documentary casa del migrante at mexic-arte museum. moran will give a short talk at 7:30 pm. the screening is part of the initiative arts on the move taking place on thursday may 14 from 6-9 pm. marcela moran and her documentary work were part of the discussion at the transformative journeys: a symposium at the bob bullock texas history museum last month.
marcela moran is assistant professor of communications at texas a&m international university. her short film, casa del migrante, won best documentary at the nyc downtown international short film festival in 2006, and was screened at the los angeles international short film festival (2006), cine las americas (2006), the harlem international film festival (2006), and indiefest- chicago (2007).

marcela has new documentary projects: the recently released audiencia, a short documentary about the underground lucha libre (mexican wrestling) scene in the border town of laredo texas. audience members and wrestlers speak passionately about the sport, as well as what it means to them as mexicanos. also currently in post-production proyecto scalabrini (about the casas del migrante run by the scalabrini missionaries in mexico and guatemala). marcela earned her b.s. in radio/tv/film from the university of texas at austin, and an mfa-film from ohio university.
arts on the move consists of five museums in austin opening their doors for a special evening of art and history. visitors may visit the museums on self-guided tours to discover how the immigrant experience shapes our world. participating museums and exhibitions include texas state history museum, mexican american cultural center, austin museum of modern art, mexic-arte museum, and the george washington carver museum and cultural center.
