fusebox

been attending some of the fusebox happenings here in town. so far very good!

on thursday, opening night of the festival, i attended the erection performance by french artists pierre rigal and aurelien bory. the performance took place at ballet austin, lasted 45 minutes and took the audience through evolution and advancement of human kind. at first i thought the piece was getting a bit too long. the changes were slow but significant in the end. using sound and simple rectangular shapes delivered via projections from above, pierre laid out what was to be humankind's leap into modern man. in the later part of the piece the interaction and use of video was a bit more complex and developed. projections of himself now interacted and followed pierre. humankind reaches an advanced state. magnificent performance!

today, sunday, attended the bodies in urban spaces directed by willie dorner from austria and performed by members of the ballet austin. truthfully i don't believe just anyone could have performed these maneuvers and poses. the bodies in these urban spaces required flexibility and endurance. the group of performers, about 14 in total, were dressed in brightly colored relaxed exercise garments creating an interesting contrast in the urban backdrop. they ran throughout the downtown warehouse district nudging and incorporating themselves in various positions and formations becoming part of the urban setting. at times performers were so well infused into the architecture and downtown landscaping that it was easy to miss them if it were not for the rest of the audience following along. it was like playing grown up hide and go seek. at times up in a tree, other times between an old water drain running down a wall to just a stack of bodies at the corner of 9th and congress avenue. two thumbs up on this one!

here are a few pictures i took...
